The Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW), in conjunction with the city of Montrose, CO pulled a little switcheroo with the Chipeta Lake State Wildlife Area and the city owned Cerro Summit area. Resulting in a brand new 162-acre public hunting area, which holds a 40-acre reservoir. It can be found 15 miles east of the city of Montrose, by U.S. Highway 50.

It opened just last week (Sept. 29).

The CPW explains, "the property is also open to big-game and small game hunting during regular seasons. Because the area provides excellent winter range for deer and elk, and Gunnison-sage grouse habitat, the property will be closed seasonally from Nov. 30 through March 31."
